Motorcycle's And Scooters Get Better Gas Mileage
« on: March 06, 2022, 06:15:33 PM »
Two people i know in California just paid over $5 per gallon for gasoline. The last time I bought gas I paid $3.59 per gallon, and now gas at many gas stations near me is selling for $4.14 per gallon. I'm lucky because I have a Kawasaki KLR 650 that gets over 50 mpg, but I feel sorry for anyone who only has a gas guzzling full size pickup truck or SUV for transportation.

What can you do? Buy a new or used motorcycle or scooter that is 650cc or smaller in size. I think 650cc is a good cutoff point for getting the most mpg's and still having a motorcycle with descent performance, but there are larger models that get over 50 mpg, so do your research. Fuel injection provides better fuel economy than a carbureted engine, so keep that in mind. Usually the smaller the engine displacement the better the fuel economy, but you'll sacrifice performance. For example, the new Honda Navi only has a 109cc engine and gets 110 mpg but top speed is only around 53 mph.

If your commute or driving habits involve freeway travel, then a good rule of thumb is keep the size of the motorcycle above 250cc for better performance. 250cc motorcycles can travel 55 mph but the smaller the motorcycle the more the engine struggles, so keep that in mind. Some smaller scooters like the Honda PCX can travel on the freeway even though the engine displacement is only 157cc. Suzuki has a 200cc and 400cc scooter called Burgman that I'm sure has a high mpg rating and can travel on the freeway.

Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha sell a wide variety of scooters and motorcycles. Whatever model your attracted to, do your research by talking to your dealer and using online resources such as videos and forums dedicated to specific models.

Here is a list of different motorcycles and scooters and their mpg rating. This list is not complete and I've left models out, so do your research. It's meant to give you an idea of motorcycle and scooter mpg ratings. Not every manufacturer lists an mpg rating for every model. Harley Davidson doesn't sale a motorcycle in USA below 883cc, but their Sportster 883 does have a 51 mpg rating, so I included it in the list. It's funny because the Harley classic Sportster is on the choppy block and might be discontinued soon. Its not only one of the best looking motorcycles Harley Davidson has ever made, but its the best fuel efficient motorcycle Harley sales if you don't count the electric Livewire.

If USA is on the verge of war like many people think we are, who knows how high gas prices will go with Leftist in control.
