These Harley Davidson Motorcycle Padlocks Are Now Collectible

Here are two Harley Davidson padlocks that are now collectable. The padlock on the right sold as Harley Davidson Bar & Shield Padlock. I talked about this padlock before on this forum, and you can view the post here:

Harley Davidson discontinued this classic padlock

The padlock on the left was sold as High Security Padlock. You can find both padlocks in the description photo below under E and G along with their 2009 MSRP.

I own both these padlocks, but I failed to ever get the leather pouch accessory for the Bar & Shield Padlock or the block accessory, which gave the rider a place to store the padlock on the motorcycle when not in use.

Both padlocks were made by Master Lock, and if you want to know more about the Bar & Shield padlock, then use the link above to view the other post. The High Security Padlock was part of Master Lock's commercial high security line. They called these padlocks ProSeries. Its a laminated padlock with a replaceable core that contained high security pins, and a lock body covered by a black plastic shroud. For the Harley Davidson version of this padlock, Master Lock drew the white outline of the Bar & Shield logo on the black shroud. Other than that, it is just a Master Lock ProSeries padlock.

The Harley Davidson Bar & Shield Padlock was more popular than the High Security Padlock. In fact, I have never seen anyone other than myself who owns the High Security Padlock. It's probably because the engraved Bar & Shield logo made it look so much better than a white outline on a black plastic shroud. Both padlocks were discontinued and replaced by Kryptonite locks. It is true that Kryptonite locks are more secure on some levels than either of these two padlocks, BUT, on a practical level it doesn't matter what lock you choose to secure your Harley Davidson motorcycle. All metals are vulerable to grinding, and any thief can break your Kryptonite lock with a portable grinder just as easily as a Master Lock padlock. I have never seen a theif, or heard of one that takes the time to learn how to pick a lock in order to steal something. But I guess public perception matters, and Harley Davidson now sells Kryptonite locks.
