A Yamaha 3 And 4 Wheeler Used In Movie The Goonies.

(1/1)

smallengineshop:
A scene in the movie, The Goonies, shows two patrol officers riding a Yamaha 4 wheeler and 3 wheeler on the beach. The Goonies was released in 1985 and starts Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and Josh Brolin. The first production year for a Yamaha 4 wheeler was 1985. The 4 wheeler in The Goonies is a 1985 Yamaha YFM200, and I believe the 3 wheeler is a Yamaha YTM225. Yamaha referred to their 3 wheeler as "Tri Moto," and the 4 wheeler as "Moto 4." Both vehicles are powered by a single cylinder 4 stroke engine, and I believe both vehicles have a 5 speed manual transmission. Both vehicles have a drive shaft for a final drive, and the side of both seats says 'SHAFT," referring to the final drive. I guess Yamaha was very proud of that feature.

What makes these vehicles so interesting? Well, for one the 4 wheeler in this scene is the first production Yamaha 4 wheeler, and the 3 wheeler is a vehicle you will probably never see in production again. Three wheeled vehicles in America were banned in 1988, because there were so many reported injuries from riders.

The first video shows The Goonies scene. It's the best quality video I could find on YouTube, but it's dubbed in a different language. The second video gives you a better look at the Yamaha Moto 4, and the 3rd video shows a four stroke and two stroke powered Yamaha Tri Moto.
