1958 or 1959 Harley Davidson Commercial
« on: December 05, 2016, 09:41:48 PM »
I found this Harley Davidson commercial on YouTube. It features the Harley Davidson Duo-Glide, which first appeared in 1958, and the Harley Davidson Hummer manufactured from 1955 to 1959, so the commercial was produced in 1958 or 1959.

The Duo-Glide was Harley's first big FL and FLH to feature hydraulic front and rear suspension. The Hummer is a Harley Davidson single cylinder two-stroke engine designed after the German DKW RT125, which Harley Davidson received as war reparations from Germany after World War 2. All Harley Davidson two stroke motorcycles based on the German DKW RT125 engine eventually were replaced by Aermacchi small displacement motorcycles when Harley Davidson took control of Aeronautica Macchi in 1960.  The Harley Davidson labeled Aermacchi motorcycles eventually fell prey to the massive influx of superior (AND BETTER LOOKING) small displacement Japanese motorcycles in the 60's and 70's. I never understood why Harley Davidson didn't take more control over Aermacchi styling. Harley Davidson manufactures the best looking and most recognized engine in the world, but some of the bikes coming out of the Aermacchi plant were the oddest looking things.
