Magnum Force is a action, crime, mystery, thriller movie starring Clint Eastwood as "Dirty" Harry Callahan. The movie was released December 25, 1973, and is about Inspector Callahan investigating a group of San Francisco vigilante motor cops that set out to clean up the streets of San Francisco by murdering criminals that are able to avoid prosecution under the law. The 1971 Moto Guzzi V750 Ambassador Police motorcycles used in this movie under the SFPD banner makes this movie unique from a motorcycle point of view. It wasn't very common back than, or even today, to see someone riding a Moto Guzzi in America, let alone used by a police department. I couldn't find any evidence San Franciso motor cops ever rode Moto Guzzi's, but the CHP did buy a few for evaluation during the 1970's but were dropped in favor of the Kawasaki KZ900. The LAPD used Moto Guzzi's for patrol maybe as early as the late 1960's, but definitely during the 1970's. Moto Guzzi manufactured the V750 Ambassador from 1968 to 1972. The Moto Guzzi Ambassador Police motorcycles used in this movie were manufactured in 1971 or 1972. The motorcycles don't look new, and if you assume 2 years from pre-production to the release date for the movie Magnum Force, than pre-production began in December, 1971. In 1972 Moto Guzzi came out with a larger displacement and more powerful Eldorado Police model, so if production did have access to 1972 Moto Guzzi motorcycle's, than why not choose the more powerful Eldorado?
