I read in an older Health high school academic book, published in the 1970's, that said a persons monthly rent should not exceed their 1 week take home pay. Following this rule was said to be a "good rule of thumb" in America and contributes to a healthy lifestyle. The average rent in America now is $2,113 per month. That means, according to this older school book, you need to take home at least $8,452 a month, or $101,424 a year. How many people in America just starting out can make $102k per year? Not very many. Man, how times have changed.
The median salary for automotive mechanics in America is $47,770 per year. That means 50 percent of auto mechanics make more than that, and the other 50 percent make less than that. How many of those upper 50 percent make at least $102k per year? Not very many. Man, how times have changed.
$2,113 rent per month is $25,356 per year. I remember when $25k yearly income was considered a living wage, and now your being charged that for rent. How did America get to a point where most people can't make enough money to follow the rule about rent and income in this older Health book? Man, how times have changed.
