Title: Toyota Doesn't Think EV's Are A Good Solution......Not Yet
Post by: smallengineshop on October 06, 2022, 05:42:12 PM
Toyota, the worlds largest car manufacturer, isn't jumping on the EV band wagon like American manufacturers GM and Ford. The CEO of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, said this: "Ambitious targets for electric vehicle sales — in California or nationwide — will be hard to achieve by 2030 or 2035, Akio Toyoda told reporters here last week. Regarding California’s mandate that will ban the sale of gasoline-burning vehicles by 2035, the Toyota Motor Corp. CEO said: “Realistically speaking, it seems rather difficult to really achieve that.” He added that a national goal of 50 percent zero-emission vehicles by 2030 would be “very difficult.”

Good for him! I think he is right. EV's just don't work well with the current technology and infrastructure. The other day I read the GM Hummer EV takes 4 days to fully recharge using a traditional wall outlet (see article below). Who in the world wants to wait 4 days to recharge they're vehicle? If that's not bad enough, EV technology gives the Hummer almost a 6 figure price tag. Like a lot of EV cars, the price is out of reach for most car buyers. I've always thought hybrids and smaller gas burning cars are the way to go if you really care about pollution and people.
